Heart (I prepared the hearts for safety reasons)
Step 1: fold paper in half
Step 2: put the connected crease on the left side
Step 3: cut half a heart shape from the bottom corner until desired point.
Material 1: Crazy art crayons
2yr old James : James had trouble keeping the crayon upright while applying pressure. When trying to assist him, he thought I was trying to take it away. Each time he picked up a color he would say the name out loud. After using only red, blue, and green, Interest in the crayons quickly faded.
4yr old Emily:
While observing Emily’s process, I admired her technique. She took her crayons and drew in an up-and-down motion, creating an ombre effect with pink, green, blue, and black. I suggested she could utilize the other half of the heart. Then she told me she liked it how it was.
Crayola Markers:
James chose not to participate, it was close to his nap time and he was getting impatient.
Emily: While using the markers, Emily had a bit of trouble gripping her markers. This caused her to have a little less control over her linework. She preferred the crayons over the paint because it gave her a "better rainbow."
(I had to substitute colored pencils for Crayola markers due to the safety concern due to the sharp tips. I discussed it with their mother and she agreed it was the best decision.)
Painting:
James: He utilized all of the available paint colors. Instead of going for an additional dip of paint, James wets his brush and puts it on the page to spread the colors. It was intriguing to see how focused he was on his creation, almost using the whole page.
Emily: Emily decides to only use green for her painting. Instead of using water to help spread out the paint, she used globs and spread it around lightly. She lost interest in her painting relatively quickly.
Limitations:
-The Paint bled through the printer paper, I should’ve purchased mixed media instead.
-Attention span of interest
-lack of control of environment
Comfort level teaching & improvements
I feel comfortable instructing children due to my experience working for different families.
Futuristically, I need to examine new ways to keep students' interest during demonstrations.
Possible safety and health concerns:
The children are very small and they were very low in the chairs and the table is high. There was a slight concern of falling, but there were no instances.
