Theme: Nature
One photo per shot: Slowly adjust the position for each take!
Materials:
Phone or camera
A tripod or something to hold your camera still
Objects (clay, paper, toys, etc.)
Flat surface and background
Good lighting
Directions:
Place your objects in the starting position. Make sure your camera is steady and does not move. Keep your lighting consistent.
Take a picture of your scene. This is the first frame of your animation.
Move your object a small amount. Do not move the camera!
Take another picture after each small movement. Repeat this process many times.
Keep movements small
Keep lighting the same
Do not bump the camera
Create your video (press play)!
Tips for a Successful Animation:
Take more photos than you think you need
Work slowly and carefully
Plan your idea before you start
Check your animation as you go
Concerns: Not all students have access to technology!

History of Stop Motion:
This stop motion project was created by taking a series of photos and putting them together to create movement. Stop motion is a filmmaking technique where objects are slightly moved and photographed many times to create the illusion of motion (Stop Motion Magazine, 2016). It is one of the earliest animation techniques and was used before modern digital animation. Early filmmakers discovered that showing images in sequence could create movement, which became the foundation of animation today (Stop Motion Magazine, 2016). This process requires patience and careful attention because even small changes between frames affect how the final video looks.
Reflection:
One thing others might not notice is how careful I had to be to keep my fingers out of the frame. Because Stop Motion Studio has a low shutter speed, it was easy to accidentally capture my hand in the shot.
If I were to do this again, I would plan out my movements more before starting and take more time to keep everything consistent. This would help make the animation smoother and more organized.
I am most pleased with how the movement came together. The animation feels smooth and complete.
